Course Introduction: Geometry as Ordered Creation and Faithful Stewardship

Geometry is the study of shape, space, structure, measurement, relationship, and proof. In this course, students learn to see geometry not merely as a collection of formulas, but as a disciplined way of observing and reasoning about the ordered world God created.

Firefly Geometry is built from a Christ-centered understanding of truth:

Christ → Creation → Order → Stewardship → Wisdom → Dominion

Students begin with the conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord over all creation and that the universe is intelligible because it reflects the wisdom, order, and faithfulness of its Creator. Geometry gives students tools to describe, measure, design, prove, and steward the physical world with accuracy and wisdom.

To Complete 1 full high school credit the student MUST complete Part 1 and Part 2 of Algebra 1 along with all student workbooks. Student workbooks are located in the “materials” tab for each individual lesson. Materials needed include pencil, printed student workbooks, notebook with lined paper, chalkboard course Part 1 and Part 2. Extra practice problems are available for students who need additional practice to master concepts. These printouts are located in the “materials” tab of Lesson 1 for Part 1 and Part 2 respectively. Should your student need additional assistance when solving problems in the lesson workbooks, additional teacher resource books for each lesson with detailed workbook practice problem explanations are located in this tab as well.

This course is designed as a complete high school Geometry credit. It is benchmarked against major Geometry programs including Math-U-See, Acellus/Power Homeschool, and Saxon Geometry, including Saxon’s strong emphasis on distributed review, cumulative practice, proof development, coordinate reasoning, constructions, trigonometry, circles, solids, and advanced applications.

Students will study geometric foundations, constructions, reasoning, proof, parallel and perpendicular lines, triangle congruence, polygons, quadrilaterals, similarity, right triangles, trigonometry, transformations, circles, area, surface area, volume, conic sections, geometric probability, and real-world modeling.

The course is mastery-based. Each lesson ends with a capstone mastery project that asks students to apply what they have learned through design, proof, modeling, reflection, and communication. Spiral review is intentionally built throughout the year so students continually revisit algebra, radicals, equations, coordinate geometry, formulas, proportional reasoning, and prior Geometry concepts.

By the end of the course, students should be prepared for Algebra 2 and future high school math because they will have practiced:

  • Formal mathematical reasoning and proof

  • Algebraic problem solving in geometric contexts

  • Coordinate geometry and graphing

  • Radical expressions and exact values

  • Trigonometric ratios and applications

  • Quadratic relationships through circles and conics

  • Modeling, measurement, and real-world design

  • Clear written explanation and mathematical communication
