Firefly Curriculum: 8th Grade Science: Christ-Centered Physical Science, Engineering, and Stewardship
Course Structure: 5 Lessons, 5 Topics Per Lesson
Course Description
This 8th grade science course introduces students to the major concepts of physical science, including matter, atoms, molecules, chemical and physical changes, energy, heat, magnetism, electricity, waves, sound, electromagnetic energy, light, forces, gravity, motion, work, machines, and alternative energy.
Students will learn to observe carefully, measure accurately, build models, analyze data, explain cause and effect, design engineering solutions, and apply scientific knowledge to real-world problems. The course is designed to align with middle school physical science and engineering standards while also reflecting Firefly Education Network’s Christ-centered educational philosophy:
Christ → Creation → Order → Stewardship → Wisdom → Dominion
Students will study the physical world as God’s ordered creation. Matter, energy, forces, waves, and systems are not random or meaningless; they reveal structure, intelligibility, beauty, and purpose. Because creation is ordered, students can investigate it. Because creation belongs to God, students must steward it wisely. Because knowledge should lead to wisdom, students will apply science to service, responsibility, innovation, and faithful dominion under Christ.
