Firefly Code of Conduct for Instructors and Content Creators

This Code of Conduct establishes the expectations for instructors and content creators on Firefly Education Network’s home education platform (www.fireflyedu.org). By participating as a teacher or course creator, you agree to uphold the values, standards, and guidelines that define our educational community.

We are truly grateful for your contribution to Firefly and hope your experience here is meaningful, rewarding, and uplifting. If this Code of Conduct presents a significant conflict with your personal convictions, we respectfully encourage you to consider whether this is the right platform for your teaching.

1. Alignment with Foundational Principles

Firefly is rooted in Christian and liberty-focused values. While instructors are not required to share these beliefs, they are expected to:

• Respect and honor the guiding principles of the platform.

• Refrain from promoting ideologies that are fundamentally opposed to our values (e.g., socialism, Marxism, communism, or similar frameworks).

• Avoid presenting religious worldviews outside of Christianity as normative or desirable.

• Present discussions on alternative belief systems (political, religious, or philosophical) with academic neutrality and without personal endorsement.

2. Curriculum Integrity

Christian Framework

• Christianity serves as the central moral and spiritual reference point for all instruction.

• Other religious traditions may be examined in historical or comparative studies but may not be taught as belief systems for students to adopt.

Content Boundaries

• Sexually explicit material of any kind is strictly prohibited. These sensitive discussions are best left to parents in their own households.

• Curriculum should limit biology-related instruction to the observable, scientific distinctions between male and female across species.

• Lessons or materials promoting theories that conflict with biological realities or that undermine the moral foundations of the platform are not permitted.

3. Expectations for Professional Conduct

Respect and Civility

• Instructors are to maintain a classroom environment that reflects respect, clarity, and thoughtfulness, regardless of differing opinions or backgrounds.

• Harassment, intimidation, or unkind treatment—whether from instructors, students, or parents—will not be tolerated.

• Courteous and professional interaction with students, families, colleagues, and Firefly staff is essential.

Zero Tolerance for Racial or Ethnic Prejudice

• Any expression of racism or ethnically motivated prejudice is strictly prohibited.

• This applies to all individuals, including but not limited to:

  • Caucasians

  • African Americans

  • Hispanic/Latino individuals

  • Asian individuals

  • Indigenous peoples

  • Middle Eastern individuals

  • Pacific Islanders

  • Members of any other ethnic or racial group

4. Standards of Instruction and Interaction

Ethical Teaching

• Instructors are expected to demonstrate honesty, impartiality, and excellence in their teaching, curriculum development, and classroom interactions.

Political Neutrality in Instruction

• Teaching must remain educational and fact-based when covering political topics. Instructors may not use their platform to advocate for political ideologies contrary to Firefly’s values.

Maintaining a Positive Learning Environment

• Content or behavior that disrupts the peace, safety, or trust of the educational community will be addressed promptly and may lead to disciplinary action.

5. Violations and Disciplinary Action

• Any breach of this Code of Conduct—including the promotion of conflicting ideologies, disregard for community standards, or unprofessional behavior—will be reviewed by the Firefly board.

• If a violation is confirmed, teaching privileges may be revoked immediately, and all related content may be removed from the platform.

• The board will determine the appropriate response based on the nature and severity of the violation.

6. Instructor Agreement

By accepting a teaching or content creation role on Firefly, you acknowledge that:

• You have read and understand this Code of Conduct.

• You agree to follow the guidelines and standards described herein.

• You understand that violations may result in termination of your role and removal of content from the platform.

 

This Code exists to safeguard the mission of Firefly Education Network: to provide high-quality, values-based instruction in a respectful, principled, and thriving community.
